Taiwan travelogue: Olive Tree Minsu 南庄橄欖樹民宿

Just got back from the most wonderful minsu in nanzhuang, taiwan and boy, we loved the place so much we decided to set up a blog and write a review on it immediately.

Every corner of the minsu is filled with cute and quirky items like kitty postcards, frames and ornaments. This is the check-in counter. We could feel the heartfelt love the owners have for this place by the amount of effort and detail they put into decorating this whole minsu. After all, this place (run by 2 brothers) has been up for 7-8 years and there are visitors every single day.

Checking into our room~

had booked the 笆籬築 (Paris) room after looking through the photos on their site. What made me fall in love with this room instantly was this huge window right beside the bed that overlooked the most gorgeous scenery outside!

Toilet is very clean and stocked with amenities, slippers and shower gel as well.

Explored around the minsu before dinner because... We wanted to find the 3 cute kitties! They have 3 cute cats there that roam around freely. Hehe probably explains why this place is heavily cat-themed.

The biggest and fattest kittie here with such pretty leopard prints on its back. He's the only male kittie here while the other 2 are females. Probably explains why he was always jumping around outdoors amongst the trees and plants.

This other kittie was snoozing away on top of a shelf indoors, almost hidden from public eye the whole time we were there.

And the cutest and smallest kittie called orange! She is so cuddly and smells so nice, like fresh kitty litter.

You can choose to order dinner from their menu and dine at any of the tables at the seating area indoors or outdoors. It's not included in the room charge though, but it's only around 380 TWD. We had thai chicken and it came with a soup and absolutely delicious salad #yummeh

Woke up the next morning to the most gorgeous view ever! We both had the best sleep of my life ever the bed was SO comfortable omg.

Peanut butter toast for breakfast yumz

We fell in love with this place so much that we are thinking of coming back every year to relax. And also.... Set up our very own minsu in future maybe?

How to get there:
1. From taichung, you can take a taxi directly to the minsu that would cost around 2000 TWD.
2. Or for the cheaper alternative (which is what we did), take the 火车 from Taichung 台中 to zhunan 竹南 station and then take a car ride in for 800 TWD for a single journey. The minsu owner was very nice and helped to arrange for a private car to fetch us in.

The lack of directions was the most frustrating part when I was trying to plan for this trip and almost made me give up on the idea of the minsu. So glad I didn't back out and trusted my instincts that my boy would love it so much!

Clearer picture of the extremely confusing train system in Taiwan. This shows the various 火车 stations that run between Taipei, Taichung, Miaoli etc. The huoche station from Taichung HSR is called xinwurih 新乌日 which is a few stations away from zhunan 竹南.

Bye bye, olive tree minsu. We'll be back one day again!
